GXF Forums - HTLOZ nostalgia

View Thread : HTLOZ nostalgia

King
I feel like reviving the Web Time Machine.

Here's HTLOZ (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/forums.htloz.com/bb/) one month after I joined (this is in July 2001). I'm on that page as 'zelda-king'. I didn't use higher case letters back then.

This one (http://web.archive.org/web/20010516002345/http://forums.htloz.com/) is from May 2001 just before I joined but I'm posting this as well because it is archived better and you can click on some links. While I'm at it check here (http://www.geocities.com/nintendo_fanatic6d8/HTLOZ.html) for some fanart.

Shadow
That's long before I joined. wow....

moeman343
I've seen the July one, but never the may one. Too bad the symbols are not there.
Falco-X (http://web.archive.org/web/20010507144317/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/bb_profile.php?mode=view&user=5), Blazer (http://web.archive.org/web/20010507144317/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/bb_profile.php?mode=view&user=1),
Zerofoxie (http://web.archive.org/web/20010507144317/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/bb_profile.php?mode=view&user=6), Espio (http://web.archive.org/web/20010507144317/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/bb_profile.php?mode=view&user=2),
Link of Hyrule (http://web.archive.org/web/20010507144317/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/bb_profile.php?mode=view&user=109)

That was the old team.
Ayn (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=67), GameCube Man (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=7), IceSage (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=52), Link of Hyrule (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=20), Majora Tribal 3 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=21), TikiWiki_mask2 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010710213555/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=156)

That was the slightly new one.

Is it possible to see the site in the archives?

King
Take your pick;

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.htloz.com/home.html

...or just type in an URL at http://web.archive.org

Nemesis
Notice how we jumped about 350 members in two months?

It's great seeing those again, in the online members on the july one is 'The Nemesis' I always wondered whether he was nicking my name or wether i'd nicked his.

Cyberventurer
Wow, that's a lotta extra forums. Makes me wish I still stuck around, but I just felt too out of place and a little...old when HTLOZ was up the second time, and I had never known that it was up once more after that. Guess I wish I could just redo some stuff, primarily to sound less-nooby or whatever.

Nemesis
I just wish we could get inside and look at the actual posts. Then we could see how much of a newbie we all were back then.

If we new the actual thread url's could we see the posts?

moeman343
Oh well, HTLoZ was corrupt, I am starting to admit. But anyhoo, the past is the past, and I think that if we really hard at GXF, it could create a much better community that HTLoZ ever had.

IceSage
I wish those URLS you gave, Enigma, worked. I would have loved to have seen my old profile.

King
Some of them work. I can see Blazer's.

Yeah, so that first one I posted is what got me into forums. I saw the end of the previous incarnation (second link in the first post).

I'd been browsing the site for ages prior to that but just didn't get into the boards. I didn't even have a computer back then.

Silver Rogue
I only joined Htloz because of the Timeline theory thingy in Zelda. I had been browsing the site after discovering it from the sources of Grand Adventures. I liked reading Fan Fictions, my favorite being the Hero series. I also liked the It's real part of Htloz.

moeman343
I wish those URLS you gave, Enigma, worked. I would have loved to have seen my old profile.

Well I just used those from the site URL's, I just copy n' pasted. (Must be something to do with VB)

Edit: If you try to view the site of HTLoZ, all the flash areas of the webpage will NOT show up, so don't waste yer time waiting for it.

SkullkidLink
*Sobs*
Man, that brings me back! Thanks, King!
Old SKL: "Guess where this is (http://web.archive.org/web/20010521092351/http://forums.htloz.com/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=1366&forum=1&20)"
...I have no idea where this is....

King
Go here (http://web.archive.org/web/20011003203655/http://www.htloz.com/home.html) to see the website back when HTLOZ was covering the first impressions of The Wind Waker.

Here's a feature (http://web.archive.org/web/20011025031457/www.htloz.com/zelda_of_the_future/zelda_sw2001.html) from Falco-X which I'm pretty sure was his last ever. Click at the bottom for continuations by Espio and Blazer.

A lot of links work here.

Ayn
Wow, how I always felt like I've forgotten so much, and yet, by seeing those, I remember so much.

It really hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw the "Loading the forums, please wait" page. I was so young.. So naive.. And I was just learning how to drive. =X

Mack
Wow... that may one is just a few days after I joined. I don't even know if I had posted in the general forum by then, I was just in E3 discussion, talking about SSB:M... which was just announced.

:music:MEMMMOOORRRIEEES:music:

King
Lots of Falco-X (and some other guys) here (http://web.archive.org/web/20010124114600/htloz.com/zelda6/news.html).

On another note: GXF - May 26th 2002 (http://web.archive.org/web/20020526214953/http://bb.gamercrossfire.net/).

moeman343
Do you have to sign up for this website? Or do they archive things by themselves?

King
They do it themselves I think. I hadn't got in touch with them about GXF.

Bhaal
I remember the old GXF layout and we seem to have come back to something rather close to it. I just wish that they had slightly more depths into it so we could see some of the old threads.

Shadow
I don't remember like...anything of the old old gxf.

Lady Kara
I barely know much of it either.

I joined GXF when it was called that (not GamersTalk Elite or whatever it was before), courtesy of someone at tmsword.com who referred to himself as "The Deku King" and used an avatar of FF9's Vivi. I know he's still here, but I plumb forgot his name.....

Looking at this makes me really miss the old days when HTLoZ was my digital home. *sigh* Wish HTWoZ could recapture some of that former glory.......

moeman343
HTWoZ is dead. They are starting a new idea, but yet again, it could be released the day I die. Or never, knowing how hard Brian works.

King
I spoke with Blazer yesterday and he denies anything about any new site.

DeMuro1
damn that was nice. I really miss that place. I wish I could see my profile. I really forgot what that place looked like.
Thanks King.
Reminds me of why I love this place so much. It will hopefully always be here

moeman343
I spoke with Blazer yesterday and he denies anything about any new site.

Well I had been speaking with Brian (Blazer officially quit) and he said they are going to start up a new type of Zelda site that does not do information, but more like a Zelda Features site. Blazer is not involved.

That too, if you had read Brians journals back on v2, he talked about it.

Brian
Blazer has nothing to do with any 'new-fangled' Zelda sites because this has (emphasis here) absolutely nothing to do with HTWOZ.

Raz
I believe Tempest has a part in this too, right?

Cyberventurer
Hey, I just remembered...
<font color="red"><marquee>This is a test of the Emergency HTML System...</marquee></font>
Ya, I know HTML doesn't work but I once tried making that my "signature". Of course, there was no signature option then so I would have had to type it after every post. I gave up on that quickly. :D

DeMuro1
I believe Tempest has a part in this too, right?
I really hope this isn't what I think it is. I read something Tempest wrote for a Zelda history type deal. The writing was very goos but not factual in relation to the game at all. There were points that were corect in context but grosse artistic liscences were taken throughout the text. I still have it. If Tempest were to give his permission I'd post it up but not until then.

Cyberventurer-I might make a marquee script for us. send me a pm and I will for sure

DeMuro1

Pyrotekk
I remember some of those archived topics... I think. I was just hoping I'd see my name (well, Ice006) there, but I mustn't have created any topics or last replies or anything... well, assuming I was even registed. I'm pretty sure I was.

Blazer
The good old days. I sure do miss those :)

IceSage
The good old days. I sure do miss those :)

Holy crap. Welcome Blazer. I knew you'd pop in sooner or later.

Well, I gotta go. More from me tomorrow.

PS. Check out "ASK ICESAGE"

moeman343
Holy crap, I crapped in my pants!

Long time no see! Are you just here just bcz your bored or something?

This is moeman343, just to let you know.

God, why am I so giddy all of a sudden?

SkullkidLink
O_O BLAZER?!
Welcome back! *Cheers*

PS: Check out IceSage's picture, he's HOT! ^_~

Blazer
Hahaha. Just been thinking about GXF and Zelda lately. Decided to login and say hi. Maybe even stay around.

Gale
...Blazer....registered... Blazer....posting.. What was the last sign of the apocolypse again? :P

Brian
...

lalala.

Hey matey. Why don't you ever play your ranger? Why are you playing BARD so much? Weh, the #1 char on the server for the last week! WHHYYYY~!

IceSage
This reminds me.. is HTWOZ dead?

Nemesis
I take it you forgot to turn up to the funeral didnt you Icesage :P tut tut tut...

*walks off shaking his head*

HaVoK
...Blazer....registered... Blazer....posting.. What was the last sign of the apocolypse again? :P

I believe it was ''mack and SkL merging together to create ''SUPERFREAK!'''

This reminds me.. is HTWOZ dead?

it's funny actualy, i was testing some search engines earlier, and up Popped HTWOZ!!!

unfortunately, http://www.htwoz.com/ it's all over

Mack
I believe it was ''mack and SkL merging together to create ''SUPERFREAK!'''
Whew... that's good, we're not set to do that for another two weeks, although we're still debating on names, "SUPERFREAK" is really just a working title. We thought about merging names, like "SkullkidMack" or "MacSkL", but nothing's set in stone yet.

So have fun these last two weeks you guys!

SkullkidLink
I have always liked the name "SkullkidMack". Our working title is a little too...I dunno, disco-like. And Mack, we still haven't planned WHERE we will merge! I'm always partial to that Starbucks with the funeral home inside, but whatever suits your fancy is fine with me.

NiftyNewcomer
Omg....this totally stopped me in my tracks....

In the archive that lets you see the threads but not the actual posts....it has one of the threads that I was banned in...

w0lfqu33n
Wow this place has so much history! Too bad I can't go back and read it all. That is still a useful device.

Silver Rogue
It's funny actualy, i was testing some search engines earlier, and up Popped HTWOZ!!!

Yeah, the other day I went to the google search engine, and for fun typed in Silver Rogue, I think. One of the results was the Link picture I created in Paint, for Htwoz. So weird. I can't believe how stupid that picture is... :-_-;;;:

w0lfqu33n
So who else here was around since the times of those original posts? Of course the 'member' links were not existent. Y'all sound like such a tight-knit community!

Cyberventurer
Well, I was around during the first session of HTLOZ. By luck, I happened to come back on the very day it went up the second time but I didn't stay on long at all because at the time I was having difficulty trying to visit two message boards at once. Constant confusion to me, so I stuck with the one I was more familiar with, the Fallout Shelter that was erected at the end of board #1.
After typing "IceSage" in Google (remembered he mentioned another board but hadn't given a link at the time) I came here and decided to join.

AmericanLink
I became a member about a month or two before it went down....

I think that is where I also began the "My House" Thread! :D

NiftyNewcomer
I was there when both of those archives were taken....and quite a bit earlier.

Though of course I wasnt using the name i'm using now

w0lfqu33n
After looking at that Zelda theme I wonder if we'll see it here? I liked it! ^.^

Tee
I guess this is the perfect topic to make an entry in. I registered at HTLOZ in 1999, and those of you who don't recognise me by my name may remember me as Link of Hyrule. Gees this topic can bring back some memories. I actually remember the first topic I posted in... it was a Super Mario 64 vs. Goldeneye thread started by Jack Frost.

Anyways, like Blazer I decided to pop in and say hi. Kadino referred me to the board (which I didn't realise was still up and running) and so I'll stick round.

~LoH

Cyberventurer
...that reminds me of the very last post I ever really made at HTLOZ. I was bragging about how in SSB I was able to kill 30 Pikachus on Very Hard with only one Link, set up as a 3 vs 1 10 life battle.
And then the topic switched back to Goldeneye so I figured I'd just embed a midi from it. It was the first time I heard an embedded midi without it messing up the computer in some way. After that I just drifted away.
That was around the very very beginning of the second "season" of the boards.

King
Is it just me or are those HTLOZ links blocked now?

Bhaal
Well apparantly "has been blocked by the site owner via robots.txt" so I would guess that one of the old admins didn't want them on there.

The fan art section still works though.

Da_#1_Link
Some sites are not available because of Robots.txt or other exclusions.
What does that mean?
The Standard for Robot Exclusion (SRE) is a means by which web site owners can instruct automated systems not to crawl their sites. Web site owners can specify files or directories that are allowed or disallowed from a crawl, and they can even create specific rules for different automated crawlers. All of this information is contained in a file called robots.txt. While robots.txt has been adopted as the universal standard for robot exclusion, compliance with robots.txt is strictly voluntary. In fact most web sites do not have a robots.txt file, and many web crawlers are not programmed to obey the instructions anyway. However, Alexa, the company that crawls the web for the Internet Archive, does respect robots.txt instructions, and even does so retroactively. If a web site owner ever decides he / she prefers not to have a web crawler visiting his / her files and sets up robots.txt on the site, the Alexa crawlers will stop visiting those files and mark all files previously gathered as unavailable. This means that sometimes, while using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, you may find a site that is unavailable due to robots.txt or other exclusions. Other exclusions? Yes, sometimes a web site owner will contact us directly and ask us to stop crawling or archiving a site. We comply with these requests.

So we're web crawlers, now? I don't understand this.

King
The fanart link in the first post is a website, not the archive. That's why it works.

moeman343
I think this thread might be bringing back the oldies. Two or three have returned, and its nice to have them back.

NiftyNewcomer
This forum has been QUITE interesting to look around...It's wonderful to see some of the people post that I used to see post way back then...How things have changed.

Blazer
Just an fyi, thats BS and I'll be looking into what happened.

Now I see why ;) The new owner of htloz.com, which is one of those lame search engine things that plague the internet, have archives blocked. But when they did that, it blocked ones from a year ago. So I'll see what I can do.

Blazer
"Hi!

Unfortunately we do not have the technology to do time-based exclusions
at this time. We hope to be able to do them in the future. So unless
the new owner unblocks the site, there is really nothing we can do. I
will keep your information and alert you when we can do time-based
exclusions.

Sorry I couldn't help more,
Internet Archive Support"

That's your answer ;)

Fury Three
Ain't that a load.

Well, for what it's worth, it's possible I saved the October 2001 archive, but I won't say... ;)

Whatever happened to that swf file that was made and put on HTLOZ that likened Falco-X to Hitler? I would've saved that down if I knew how to do it back then.
